DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to welcome Roy Evans\, Past President of the Rug Hooking Guild of Newfoundland and Labrador\, as he leads two rug hooking sessions for us! \nThis workshop will be of particular interest to people who enjoy working with their hands and a fibre art as well as to anyone interested in learning about a traditional Newfoundland and Labrador craft and acquiring the skills needed to pursue it independently. \nThis class will teach the basic technique\, allowing enough time for each participant to complete a coaster Kit. \nThe workshop is suitable for adolescents and adults. No previous Hooking experience is required. \nSession One – September 15\, 2019 \n\nIntroduction to Rug Hooking and it’s place in the culture and heritage of  Newfoundland and Labrador\nDisplay of different types of Hooked rugs\nDisplay of Rug Hooking Learning materials\nChoice of project and distribution of materials\nPractice of pulling a loop and making a turn\nStart working on individual projects\nReview of basic technique\nOpportunity to browse materials on display\nParticipants work independently to hook coaster\nInstructor circulates to answer questions\,make observations and offer individual advice\n\nSession Two – September 22\, 2019 \n\nRepeat activities of Session 1\nExplanation of how to finish a rug using the traditional whipping technique\nOpportunity to browse other patterns and learning materials\nQuestion and answer period\nIntroduction to the Rug Hooking Guild Of Newfoundland and Labrador
